Ahead of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, the Alliance to Combat Torture and Dignity Law Chambers organized a workshop focusing on torture prevention, accountability and legal reform.

The discussion examined custodial torture and extrajudicial killings, as well as their wider impact on individuals, families and society. Participants highlighted concerns around abuse in custody and the need for stronger mechanisms to prevent violations and hold those responsible accountable.

Speakers discussed the legal and institutional challenges surrounding cases of torture and custodial abuse, emphasizing the importance of effective oversight and accountability mechanisms.

The workshop also focused on the need for reforms in law and public policy to strengthen protections for people in state custody and ensure that allegations of torture are properly investigated.

Participants argued that preventing torture requires more than legal provisions on paper and called for effective implementation, institutional accountability and greater awareness of legal protections.

The discussion concluded with calls for urgent reforms aimed at preventing custodial abuse, strengthening accountability and protecting human dignity.
